Is Costco Gas Open 24/7? What Time It Opens, Closes, and Can You Pump After Hours

Costco gas stations are not open 24 hours. The pumps open early and close in the evening, and they are locked overnight. This post gives the usual opening and closing times for each day in the US and Canada, based on Costco's published hours. It also lists the stations with different hours, what happens at closing time, holiday closures and the quieter times to fill up.

Short answer: No, Costco gas is not open 24/7. Most US stations are open 6:00 AM–10:00 PM Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM–8:30 PM on Saturday and 6:00 AM–7:30 PM on Sunday. Canadian gas bars currently list 6:00 AM–9:30 PM on weekdays and 6:00 AM–8:30 PM on weekends. After closing time the pumps shut down, and there is no way to buy fuel until they reopen.

Is Costco gas open 24 hours?

No. We could not find a single Costco gas station that Costco lists as open around the clock. Every station has set hours, and the pumps only take payment during those hours.

Two stations, Mayfield Heights, Ohio and W Katy, Texas, came through in the feed behind our tracker with hours that look like round-the-clock operation. We checked both on costco.com in September 2026. Each one shows the standard 6:00 AM–10:00 PM weekday schedule, so that entry was a data glitch and neither station is open 24 hours. If a map app or a third-party site shows a Costco gas station as "open 24 hours", check the warehouse page on costco.com or costco.ca first.

Costco has not said why it doesn't run its pumps overnight. Its stations are built around high volume during staffed hours, and every sale needs a membership card scanned at the pump. SlashGear points out that unattended overnight stations usually cut staff to a minimum and leave equipment problems until morning, and that model doesn't match how Costco runs its gas stations.

What time does Costco gas open and close?

In the US, Costco gas opens at 6:00 AM at most stations and closes at 10:00 PM on weekdays. Costco set this schedule in February 2025. CEO Ron Vachris said on the next earnings call that stations were "now staying open an hour later than they did previously", and some also opened earlier (CBS News).

Our tracker records Costco's published gas hours for every station. As of our September 29, 2026 reading, US stations break down like this:

A few more US patterns:

• 5:30 AM weekday opening: 65 stations open at 5:30 AM and close at 10:00 PM. Nearly all are in California, plus three in Nevada and two in Hawaii.
• 8:00 PM on Sunday: 45 stations stay open until 8:00 PM on Sundays instead of 7:30 PM.
• 4:30–5:00 AM openings: a handful of stations in California and Hawaii open before 5:30 AM (see the next section).

Canadian gas bar hours

In Canada the pattern is the same from coast to coast. The gas bars we checked on costco.ca in September 2026 (Regina, E Calgary, Anjou in Quebec, Ancaster in Ontario and Kelowna in B.C.) all list 6:00 AM–9:30 PM on weekdays and 6:00 AM–8:30 PM on Saturday and Sunday.

An earlier snapshot of Costco's data in our tracker showed Canadian gas bars closing at 7:30 PM on Sunday. Costco.ca now lists 8:30 PM for Sundays, so Sunday closing times seem to have moved later. If you are cutting it close on a Sunday, check your own warehouse's page. Older Costco Canada documents with 6:30 AM or 7:00 AM openings in Ontario and Quebec are out of date.

Which Costco gas stations open earlier or close later?

Stations in Southern California, the Bay Area and Honolulu have the longest hours. These are the ones in our data that open before 5:30 AM on weekdays, with hours we confirmed on costco.com where noted:

La Mesa is the latest-closing US station in our data, at 11:00 PM on weekdays. Outside California and Hawaii, the latest you will find Costco gas on a weekday is 10:00 PM.

Does Costco gas open earlier than the warehouse?

Yes. Gas opens hours before the warehouse and stays open after it closes. Most US warehouses open at 10:00 AM for Gold Star and Business members, while the pumps open at 6:00 AM. That gives you four hours to buy gas before the store opens.

In practice, you can shop until the warehouse closes at 8:30 PM on a weekday, then fill up on the way out. The pumps stay open another 90 minutes in the US and another hour in Canada.

Do Executive member early hours apply to gas?

No. From June 30, 2025, US warehouses started letting Executive members in from 9:00 AM, before the 10:00 AM general opening (9:30 AM on Saturdays). The same change moved Saturday closing to 7:00 PM for everyone (NBC Chicago). Costco's warehouse pages now list separate "Executive Member" and "Gold Star & Business Member" hours for the building.

Gas stations are not split that way. Every member gets the same pump hours, whatever their membership tier. You still need an active membership card to buy fuel. Our guide to whether you need a Costco membership to buy gas covers expired cards, shop cards and household cards.

Can you get gas at Costco after hours?

No. Once the posted closing time passes, the pumps stop taking new transactions and stay locked until opening time. There is no attendant override and no pay-inside option after hours. What about finishing a fill-up that is already running at closing time? Costco does not publish a policy on this. Members on forums and review sites say the pumps stop new sales at or slightly before the posted time, and that a transaction already under way usually finishes. We could not confirm this from Costco, so treat it as what people report, not a rule. Starting a card payment just before closing doesn't guarantee you can keep pumping. The attendants may start closing lanes a few minutes early.

To be safe, arrive at least 15 minutes before closing, especially on Saturday and Sunday evenings when the closing time is earlier.

Is Costco gas open on holidays?

In the US, Costco closes its warehouses on seven holidays: New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day (Costco Customer Service). Costco's customer service page lists warehouse closures only. The gas stations have followed the same closures, and the warehouse pages list holiday closures for the gas station separately. The pumps reopen with normal hours the next day.

Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are not closure days, but warehouses often close early on those days. Gas hours can also change on those days, so check the warehouse page in December.

Canadian holidays and gas bar closures

In Canada it depends on the province. Costco Canada closes nationally on some holidays and by province on others. Its Business Centre closure list for 2026 shows the pattern. Easter Sunday, Canada Day, Labour Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day are full closures. Family Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day and Thanksgiving have exceptions (Quebec is often open), and Quebec closes on June 24 for its National Holiday.

The next one to watch is Canadian Thanksgiving, on October 12, 2026. The costco.ca pages we checked in Regina, E Calgary, Ancaster and Kelowna list Thanksgiving as "Closed" for both the warehouse and the gas bar.

Boxing Day and Remembrance Day vary:

• Boxing Day: in December 2025, regular warehouses opened 9:00 AM–8:30 PM in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario, opened at 1:00 PM in Quebec, and closed in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland (Narcity). That report did not cover gas bar hours.
• Remembrance Day (November 11): news reports for 2025 had Costco open in Ontario, Alberta and B.C. Nova Scotia's Remembrance Day Act requires big-box stores to close (Narcity Toronto, Narcity Calgary, CBC). Some Ottawa-area locations open late on that day.

Any online list of Canadian holiday hours can be out of date. Check your warehouse's page on costco.ca the week before.

When is the best time to get gas at Costco?

Early weekday mornings are usually the quietest. The worst times are the hours before a holiday closure and weekend middays. Costco doesn't publish wait times, so this comes from consumer guides and what members report, not official data.

• Quieter: weekdays from 6:00 to about 8:00 AM, and the last hour or two before the pumps close on weekday nights.
• Busier: Saturday late morning to early afternoon, weekday evening rush hour (roughly 4:00 to 6:30 PM) and the lunch hour.
• Busiest: the day before a closure, such as July 3, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving or December 24, and the day after.
• Price-driven rushes: lines grow when prices are rising and word gets around that Costco is still cheaper. As of our September 29, 2026 reading, the average US Costco regular price was $4.64/gal, up about 42¢ in 30 days, which tends to push more drivers to Costco. How to check your Costco gas station's hours

The quickest way is to look up the station itself. Hours can change, and some stations run on a different schedule from the rest.

1. On our site: find your station with the Costco gas station finder or browse the US and Canada hubs. Each station page shows the pump hours next to today's price by grade and 30 days of history. State and province pages, such as Texas, Ohio, Ontario and Quebec, summarise pump hours for every station in that area.
2. On Costco's site: open your warehouse from Find a Warehouse and look at the gas station section of the store details. Costco says this is where service hours and "any adjusted holiday hours and closures" appear (Costco Customer Service).
3. In the Costco app: the same warehouse details, including gas hours, are in the app.

How late is Costco gas open tonight?

At most US stations, the pumps close at 10:00 PM Monday to Friday, 8:30 PM on Saturday and 7:30 PM on Sunday. Canadian gas bars close at 9:30 PM on weekdays and 8:30 PM on weekends. Some California and Hawaii stations stay open later, up to 11:00 PM in La Mesa, California.

What time does Costco gas open on Sunday?

Almost every Costco gas station in the US and Canada opens at 6:00 AM on Sunday, the same as the rest of the week. A few California and Hawaii stations open at 4:30 or 5:00 AM.

Does the Costco gas bar in Canada keep the same hours as the US?

Opening time is the same at 6:00 AM, but closing times differ. Canadian gas bars close at 9:30 PM on weekdays, compared with 10:00 PM at most US stations. At the stations we checked in September 2026, they close at 8:30 PM on both Saturday and Sunday.

Is Costco gas open on Thanksgiving?

No. Costco gas stations are closed on US Thanksgiving (November 26, 2026), along with the warehouses. In Canada, the costco.ca pages we checked list the gas bar as closed on Thanksgiving (October 12, 2026), though Quebec often follows a different holiday schedule.

Is Costco gas open on Christmas Day and New Year's Day?

No. Christmas Day and New Year's Day are closure days for Costco in both the US and Canada, and the gas stations close with the warehouses. On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve the stations are open, but hours may be shorter, so check your warehouse page.

Can I pay at the pump after the warehouse closes?

Yes, as long as the gas station itself is still open. US pumps usually stay open about 90 minutes after the warehouse closes on weekdays, and Canadian gas bars about an hour. You still need your membership card and an accepted payment card at the pump.

Is any Costco gas station open 24 hours a day?

We are not aware of any. Two stations appeared as round-the-clock in our data feed, but costco.com lists both with standard 6:00 AM–10:00 PM weekday hours. Treat any "24 hours" listing for a Costco gas station as a mistake until the warehouse page says otherwise.
