Restricted trading days. Under the Shop Trading Hours Act 1990, most shops must stay closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Christmas Day, and until 1pm on Anzac Day. Service stations are among the shops allowed to open on those days, with limits on what they can sell, so the law does not stop a fuel station opening; whether Costco’s does is Costco’s decision. Easter Sunday is not a public holiday, and councils can let shops open that day through a local Easter Sunday trading policy.
Weekend holidays. When a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the second date is the weekday (Monday or Tuesday) the public holiday is observed on. Anzac Day’s trading restriction stays on 25 April itself.
