Costco Gas Prices in Canada

Costco operates gas bars at 78 of its 104 Canadian warehouses, in eight provinces. Ontario, Alberta, and Quebec hold most of them; there are none in Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island. A Costco pump is usually the cheapest in town, often 5 to 15 cents a litre under the majors, because the warehouse can live on membership fees and move a lot of fuel. Nearby stations commonly trim their prices when one opens, then stop short of matching it.

The discount is not the same everywhere. Provincial fuel taxes, blend rules, and transport costs open a wide gap across the country, and even two cities in the same province can look quite different. A Hamilton-area warehouse might run about 10 cents under the local street price, while Ottawa's stations sit closer to everyone else. The rankings below show where today's cheapest fills actually are.

Every gas bar sells Kirkland Signature regular and premium, Top Tier certified; many also have diesel. You scan a membership card before pumping and pay with Mastercard, debit, or a Costco Shop Card — no cash, and no Visa, the reverse of the United States. The gas bar typically opens earlier and closes later than the warehouse.

Cheap on a national list usually means cheap taxes as much as a cheap warehouse. Manitoba and Saskatchewan tend to land near the bottom; British Columbia, with higher fuel taxes and tougher blend rules, sits at the other end — a swing of 30 cents a litre between them is not unusual. That is a map of the country, not of how good a deal any one gas bar is against the station next door.

Gas bar hours follow the warehouse but stretch past it, opening earlier and closing later. A membership card is scanned before the pump will start; a physical Costco Shop Card works the same way. There is no cash.

For someone who fills a tank most weeks, the gap versus the majors is typically larger than the annual membership. The Executive 2% reward does not apply to gasoline in Canada either, so the saving is the pump price itself.
